This fabulous Laykin et Cie ring is named for the Roman Senator Nonius who owned the most beautiful "hazelnut sized" opal in the Roman Empire. After, refusing to sell the opal at any price to Marc Anthony so that he may present it to Cleopatra, Nonius was banished from Rome and lost all of his possessions except for one. The magnificent opal ring which he refused to relinquish. Such is the captivating nature of this multi colored and transfixing stone which in this example has been surrounded by a tempest of diamond waves buffeting on every side. But at the same time; the opal remains unmoved and steadfast. Intractable as Nonius. This Laykin et Cie ring is set in platinum and features an important black opal from the Lightning Ridge mine of Australia and was originally conceived in 1941. Our workshop has faithfully reproduced this design using top quality diamonds weighing over 7 carats.
In addition to the images of the Nonius is an image of the original Laykin et Cie color sketch of this lovely ring from 1941 featuring a cabochon emerald.
